Obama: Gun owners do not need to stock up

As gun sales shoot up around the country, President-elect Barack Obama said Sunday that gun-owning Americans do not need to rush out and stock up before he is sworn in next month. "I believe in common-sense gun safety laws, and I believe in the second amendment," Obama said at a news conference. "Lawful gun owners have nothing to fear. I said that throughout the campaign. I haven't indicated anything different during the transition. I think people can take me at my word."

But National Rifle Association spokesman Andrew Arulanandam said it's not Obama's words — but his legislative track record — that has gun-buyers flocking to the stores.

"Prior to his campaign for president, his record as a state legislator and as a U.S. Senator shows he voted for the most stringent forms of gun control, the most Draconian legislation, gun bans, ammunition bans and even an increase in federal excise taxes up to 500 percent for every gun and firearm sold," Arulanandam said.

Obama answered "yes" in 1996 to a questionnaire from an Illinois group on whether he supported a handgun ban. But he later said a staffer filled out that answer and he did not support a ban.

Nationally, background checks for gun purchases jumped nearly 49 percent during the week Obama was elected, compared with the same time period last year, according to the FBI's National Instant Background Check System.
Anecdotally, gun dealers around the country have reported spikes in sales. The Illinois State Rifle Association Reports gun sales for November were 38 percent higher than last year.

"We don't dispute [the gun sales hike] because the numbers from the federal system certainly confirm that there is increased activity out there. We just think it's a bit stupid," said Peter Hamm, spokesman for the Brady Campaign against Gun Violence.

"Anyone who thinks they need to rush out and buy a firearm clearly has not been paying attention to how quickly we make progress on this issue. We don't think these are first-time buyers. We think they are people who already have more than enough guns at their homes to protect themselves and are buying more."

Read this carefully...

Notice the first word....lawful.

When a law is enacted making all semi-auto firearms illegal,owners would no longer BE lawful...

Remember Obama is a lawyer...this is worded to make some people feel at ease.

He still supports a permanent ban on 'assault weapons'.

Common sense allows limitation by mutual agreement. The second amendment allows for no limitation (shall not be infringed)

The second amendment was formed under un-common sense, by men wiser than the batch we have now.

Yeah, we need to form 'bucket brigades'. Get together with neighbors who can listen to the sense of todays world. Most of them know by now that something is wrong.

If you believe any of the f***ers, then DO NOT BUY ANYTHING. As a matter of fact, there have been gun buy backs all over the place lately.

But IF YOU SEE WHAT I SEE, IF YOU FEEL WHAT I FEEL...

Then you KNOW where this is going to go. And mark my words, it will NOT be good for gun owners or the Second Amendment.

Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama on Friday accused President Bush of failing to respect the Constitution amid the uproar over the firing of eight federal prosecutors....

"I was a constitutional law professor, which means unlike the current president I actually respect the Constitution," Obama told an audience at a campaign fundraiser.

One wonders which Amendments and/or Clauses Obama respects. Certainly not the 14th; and we all know what's happening with the 2nd. Obama made it evident how he feels about the 1st during his campaign with "Truth Squads" in Iowa.

Now if the Obama would be so kind so as to very clearly define "common sense gun laws". I seem to remember that he agreed that the Washington DC total ban was common sense.

Verbiage like this is standard for the neo-libs. They use terms like, "anyone with common sense will agree..." or "any reasonable person can see..." in order to insinuate that if you don't agree with that point of view, you are devoid of common sense and are unreasonable. One of our resident neo-libs does it all the time on this board - offering to use small words so us ignoramuses can understand his point.

It's a standard debate ploy designed to plant the seed of doubt within someone with an alternate point of view. It works with sheep, which is clearly the target here. "Gee, I don't want to sound stupid - I guess more gun laws are for our own good. After all, it's just common sense."

Always believe the opposite of what state officials tell you, and the corollary, always do the opposite of what they advise you. So, it's easy to know how to respond to the latest edict from dictator-elect Obama. He says: gunowners have nothing to fear from him, and therefore you should not stock up on guns and ammo.

I follow Rockwell's Law as much as possible.

Scraped together some more $$ to buy some ammo today. Not a lot, but just adding to the stockpile a little bit at a time. It's too cold out to go shooting, so my ammo cache just keeps growing.
